Arts, Fashion Highlight Hospital's Annual Asian-Pacific
American Heritage Observance

movements and cries of "kia" filled the Laurel Clark
Auditorium at National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) during the
hospital's annual observance of Asian-Pacific American
Heritage Month May 26.
The celebration, hosted by the
Bethesda Multicultural Committee, included an Asian-Pacific
fashion show, DT3 Gary Fontanilla's rendition of a Filipino
love song, as well as, several martial arts demonstrations.
The guest speaker was Grand Master Jhoon Rhee,
acknowledged world-wide as the Father of American Tae Kwon Do.
Rhee's philosophy on the universal purpose of life is
Happiness. According to Rhee, truth, beauty and love are
elements that lead to true happiness.
"When you are
truthful, your heart becomes beautiful; when your heart
becomes beautiful, people love you; when people love you, then
you are Happy. Therefore, when one is truthful, being
beautiful and being loved is automatic...Universal human
values are Truth, Beauty, and Love," explained Rhee, a 10th
degree black belt.
Rhee also talked about his almost
exclusive "100-21 Club", which he said meant "100 years of
wisdom in a 21-year old body."
